REMEDIATION LINERS AND COVERS

REMEDIATION LINERS AND COVERS

The complete solution for all lining and covering applications within the Remediation Industry

As the Remediation Industry continues to develop, and with the industry subject to now stringent legislative and regulatory demands, the use of lining and covering membranes within soil remediation projects is now a requirement.

There are three basic types of soil remediation which benefit from the use of lining and covering membranes; short term soil remediation, long term soil remediation and contaminated soil storage.

Short Term Remediation

Short term soil remediation would generally last no longer than 12 months from the deployment of the soils onto the liner to the completion of the job. Short term projects require an inexpensive and easy to lay liner to line and separate the treatment area from the contaminated soils.
The liner is there to prevent cross contamination, direct surface water away from clean underlying soils and provide quick and easy cleanup once the remediation process is complete.
On completion of the job the liner is removed to expose the clean soil below.

Long Term Remediation

Long term soil remediation projects would generally last for more than 12 months and the liner is required to prevent cross contamination and contain contaminated water throughout the entire lifespan of the works.
Within this type of project a thicker, more robust liner is required to ensure 100% containment is maintained.
Greater sub-grade preparations are also required to ensure the receiving surface is suitably prepared to prevent damage to the liner and it may also be necessary to construct containment bunds around the perimeter of the treatment area to ensure the containment of contaminated water.

Contaminated Soil Storage

Contaminated soil storage systems are deployed when the cost of remediation is at a level that only allows for part of the total soil quantity to be treated due to budgetary constraints or until a more cost effective treatment technology becomes available.

Within this application the lining system needs to contain contaminated water for the duration of the storage period but due consideration must also be given to the liners chemical resistance and permeability characteristics with regards to the contaminants present.

Cover Membranes

Cover membranes are also used for all three types of soil remediation processes. Cover membranes are used to prevent the ingress of rain water into the treatment area and in some cases they are used to aide the actual remediation process by creating enhanced micro-climate conditions.

The Complete Remediation Liner and Cover Solution

Geo Hess (UK) Ltd offer a range of Geo Multi-Cover membranes which provide the most cost effective lining and covering solutions to modern day Remediation Contractors for all the above mentioned remediation types.

Geo Multi-Cover membranes consist of a woven HDPE base material coated on both sides with an LDPE film.

Geo Multi-Cover membranes are available in a range of weights, thicknesses, strength properties and UV resistance, ranging from 3 years minimum to 5 years minimum.

Geo Multi-Cover membranes are also resistant to most chemicals so no matter what type of remediation project you have we can offer a tailor made solution.

Geo Multi-Covers are supplied in large pre-welded panels, up to a maximum of 6000m2, which in many cases prevents the need for any on site seaming or at least significantly reduces the amount of on site seaming required, which provides Remediation Contractors with the most cost effective supply and deployment / installation option available upon the market.

Geo Hess (UK) Ltd also provides an on site installation service if required.

ANCHOR MAT – Anchor Solution for Lining and Covering membranes against wind disturbance

One compulsory provision which must be implemented when deploying lining, and in particular covering membranes within remediation applications is an adequate anchor system to prevent wind disturbance or damage to the membrane.

Anchor Mat is a revolutionary anchor system which is deployed directly upon insitu membranes and due to its unique construction prevents wind forces from displacing the below membrane and therefore prevents potential damage.

Any plastic membrane exposed to the elements is at real risk of wind disturbance or damage and as such a suitable anchor system must be deployed.

Anchor Mat replaces the need for large quantities of sand bags and tyres to be used as anchor systems which have both proved impractical in terms of labour and maintenance and environmental unacceptable.

Not only does Anchor Mat provide sound anchorage against potential wind disturbance, it also provides added durability and UV resistance, with Anchor Mat providing a UV block of 80% to the isitu membrane.

Due to Anchor Mats high strength and durability it can also be reused a number of times providing further value for money.

Anchor Mat is available in roll form or pre-fabricated panel form with an on site installation service also being offered if required.

Anchor Mat has been tested and is currently used within the landfill and agricultural industries.
